What Box and Papers Mean in the Secondary Market

'Box and papers' refers to the original presentation box and the original documentation that shipped with the watch — typically a warranty card or certificate, sometimes a manual and hangtag.

In the secondary market, complete box and papers generally support a higher value. They help confirm provenance and give a future buyer confidence that the watch is what it claims to be.

But box and papers are not a guarantee of authenticity on their own. A watch can be genuine without its box, and a box can accompany a watch that has had components replaced. The watch itself is always the primary evidence.

Some papers include a dated warranty card that can help establish the watch's age. Others do not. When we know whether papers are present and dated, we tell you. When we don't, we say so.

At YAR, we state clearly on each watch profile whether the original box and papers are included and verified — so you know exactly what accompanies the timepiece.
