What to Ask Before Purchasing a Luxury Watch

Ask whether the watch has been reviewed for authenticity — and what that review involved. A confident seller will explain their process plainly.
Ask about condition in plain language. What wear is visible? Are there any imperfections? A trustworthy seller describes the watch honestly, including what isn't perfect.
Ask whether components are original or replacements. Dials, hands, bezels and bracelets can be changed over a watch's life. Originality affects both value and your enjoyment.
Ask about box and papers. Are they included? Are they original? This affects resale value and your confidence in provenance.
Ask about service history and whether the watch is running well. Ask about the terms of the sale — is it final, or is there a return window? A good seller welcomes every one of these questions.
